We are thankful to have so many beautiful teachers who care for us and whom we love. Here are just a few:

Sidi Shaykh Muhammad Sa'id al-Jamal ar-Rifa'i as-Shadhuli: Raised in a Sufi community, Sidi knew the Qur'an by heart by the age of twelve. His whole life has been dedicated to teaching people the way of God through mysticism and religion. Certified as a complete master in his mid-twenties, Sidi is a bastion of wisdom in both spiritual matters as well as in natural healing. His strong spirit cares for tens of thousands of students worldwide. He spends his time caring for the poor and leading peacemaking efforts in the Middle East. His numerous written works include deep treatises on mysticism as well as commentary on the Qur'an. May Allah preserve his secret.

Ibrahim Jaffe, M.D.: Dr. Jaffe is a nationally known spiritual leader and teacher. Founder of the University of Spiritual Healing & Sufism, he has taught thousands of students spiritual healing, leadership, and wisdom for decades. Ibrahim is the spiritual head of the Shadhuliyya Sufi Center in the United States. As a Sufi teacher of the highest rank, he spends his time caring for people, teaching around the country, working on an upcoming book, and raising 4 beautiful children.

Salima Adelstein, M Ed, DD: A graduate of Harvard's Divinity School, Salima studied in Sidi's zawiyya in Jerusalem and now heads up our East Coast center and community. Salima is a deep and powerful healer, and a pillar for all those who drink from her deep wisdom. She spends her time caring for her students and farm, serving as Chairman of our national Board, and swimming in the inner ecstacy of the Sufi.

Salih & Aisha Cotten: Salih Cotten is a successful former international banker who for the last 10 years has dedicated his life to building and serving our Mother Center in California. He and his wife Aisha are on the faculty of the University. They bring a peaceful, joyous heart to all those who cross their path, and are well versed in many healing arts.

Dr. Wadud and Nura Laird: Dr. Laird, M.D. is a caring and deep spiritual teacher. A leader in the field of alternative health care, Dr. Laird ran a direct patient medical practice for over twenty years, and was responsible for sponsoring the first state alternative health care legislation. His deep sincerity and humbleness inspire all who have met him and listened to his teaching. He is the Director of our Healing University. His wife Nura, M Ed, is a teacher and counselor and co-heads our peacemaking program. Together they bring a refreshing honesty to the classroom, and occasionally teach relationship workshops.

Amina al-Jamal: Amina is one of Sidi's most senior students in the U.S. For over twenty years she has humbly served students who visit her, teaching them by example the depth and simplicity of the Sufi way of life. She occasionally allows students to stay with her for zawiyya (spiritual retreat), and runs our publishing house where she works tirelessly to bring Sidi's teachings into book form.

Shaykh A. Noorudeen Durkee: The Shaykh is one of the first Shadhuli teachers in the U.S., and the Western representative of Shaykh Ibrahim Muhammad al-Battawi, retired professor of Islamic philosophy at al-Azhar and a shaykh in the Shadhuliyyah-Badawiyyah Order of Sufism. Shaykh Durkee holds numerous ijazas in Islamic instruction, and is the founder of the Lama Foundation (1966) and the Dar al-Islam Foundation (1980), both in New Mexico. As a scholar, the shaykh has edited, translated, and authored many important works, making original Egyptian Shadhuliyya manuscripts avialable to Western seekers. His most recent work is a full translation of the Qur'an, completed in 2004. The shaykh ministers in prisons, and teaches Arabic and Islamic classes nationwide.

Abdu'llah and Aziza Cowan: Abdu'llah and Aziza lead our Austin community through their tireless efforts in serving their students and the sublime exquisite state of their hearts. Abdu'llah is a minister and imam who leads our Friday prayers and presides over marriages, etc. His stable, loving presence makes itself available as he visits the sick and helps guide our national Order. His beloved Aziza is a PhD psychologist and a guiding force in our community. Together they supervise the growing number of local teachers as well as working to build our community. We are thankful for the leadership and spiritual guidance they bring to Austin.

The Guide
The Guide of the Peace, Love, Mercy, Freedom, Justice, and Beauty

The Guide who shows you the Way is your brother. Take his hand and he will lead through from station to station, from the dark to the light, from the gross to the subtle. The secret is in the Love. You are the love, not another. When you find this Love, what more could you want?
